Math and MMA

So I'm going to tread in some dangerous water right now. Math is not well received in sports, generally speaking, but math in mixed martial arts is considered sacrilege and out of the question.

Slowly but surely though, I have to imagine it becomes slightly more mainstream in the sport. Look at the positive impact it's made in baseball. Still there are many non believers that thing Bill James is the devil (shun the non believers). Stats such as Corsi or Zone Adjusted Shots are already making a splash for hockey statisticians, and publications like Football Outsiders and the various Prospectuses have made a huge impact.

Kentucky Derby 2012

This year's field is the deepest Derby field in my memory and has been tabbed by many experts as one of the most competitive fields of all time. While there are a couple of horses that are clear favorites, there is value up and down the card so I hate to go with old cliche, but it's anyone's race.
